3. THE FONT

To the left is the original font. As baptism is the way a Christian enters Christ's Church, so the font stands near the door as a sign of the way in. It was carved by John Roddis in Birmingham, U.K. 

It shows the baptism of Jesus; the Ethiopian being baptised by Philip with camels in the background; Jesus blessing the children and the baptism of the Centurion. 

On the corners are the four Gospel writers. The stone comes from Caen in Normandy, France, from the same quarries used in many of the great French and English cathedrals. The canopy is made of Queensland maple.
